Our Commitment to Spotlighting Latina Models & Latino Designers
Latina Model Magazine is an international fashion blog site promoting Latina Models and Latino Designers from North, Central & South America.
The stories on these blog pages, including our print issue, will have great stories about talented Latina models & designers. These Latinos took calculated risks to become successful in the fashion industry and we will highlight their successes.
Furthermore, we highlight the Latino fashion community with beautiful images. It also, allows the viewer to see how things come together behind the scenes. We also highlight stories of successful Latinas in business associated with the fashion, beauty, fitness, and entertainment industries.
The Idea for Latina Model Magazine
It all started in 1994 by one person named F. Anthony Smith who was born & raised just 20 min East of DTLA / L.A. County. The main motivating factor came while attending a “Bikini Jam” hosted by Ujena Swimwear in Newport Beach, CA, in 1994.
During this time he noticed that out of 100 plus bikini contestants competing that only two were Latinas. The selected models were to be in Ujena’s annual swimsuit catalog. Subsequently, at that moment it became his mission to highlight beautiful Latina Models and their culture.
In 1995 the first all Latina Calendar in the United States was created and published named LATINAS ONLY. A second calendar published in 1996 named LATINAS inc. and a third in 1997. In addition, a calendar exclusively shot for the beautiful Latina Model Dazza . Best known in the automotive industry as a Pinup Model.[Best_Wordpress_Gallery id=”19″ gal_title=”Calendars”]
In 1994 the NAFTA trade agreement was put in place. This killed the expansion of the calendar publishing industry for many small calendar publishers. There was no way to compete with China’s low-cost wages. Well established brands like Sports Illustrated and others ordered and published 500k plus calendars for pennies on the dollar.
The Launch of LATINASinc.com
LATINASinc went into business in 2000 as a model management website for Latinas named LATINASinc.com. The database grew to over 100 Latina Models across the U.S. Many of them booking good-paying gigs like NBC’s The Entourage or Senorita Makita Tools National Brand Ambassador. Many of these corporate jobs were contracted with the help of Mrs. Leslie Gomez.
In the early days of the internet between 2000 and 2010, it was very expensive to build and maintain a database-driven website. As a result, we decided to shelve the LATINASinc.com website project and wait for a future date to relaunch. LATINASinc.com will be back very soon.
Latina Model Magazine Begins
The year 2008 was the first year that Anthony became interested in photographing Latinas in fashion. Soon after he started to attend many L.A. fashion shows. In 2015 he began to toy with the idea of creating a Latina Fashion Magazine. As a result, the Latina Model Magazine website was launched.
The last ten years Latina Model Magazine’s network has grown with models, designers, makeup & hairstylist in the fashion & beauty industry. Today, Latina Model Magazine is a trusted player in the L.A. fashion scene.
With a trusted network now set, it was time to set into motion the online presence of Latina Model Magazine.
Our team at Latina Model Magazine is ready to produce its first print issue of Latina Model Magazine. Including fashion events throughout the 2020 year in both Los Angeles and Miami. (This plan is now on hold because of the Corona Virus 2020).
Undoubtedly, Latina Model Magazine is known by many Latina fashion models and designers across the Americas. The Latino fashion community knows us for promoting their brands.
Finally, the Latina Model Magazine brand now stands on a solid foundation. It can grow exponentially in the next decade. The year 2020 will be, without question the beginning of a very successful decade.
