Alexis Bledel is Most Known for…
Alexis is best known for her role in ‘Gilmore Girls’ where she plays the part of Rory Gilmore, the daughter of a single parent. This television series was extremely successful and continued over seven seasons, starting in 2000 and ending in 2007.

Her Cultural Background
The Latin American culture is the background in which both her parents were raised, and they raised their children in the same way. Her father is of Danish and German ancestry, and her mother is descended from a mixture of British, Irish and Scottish ancestors.
Her paternal grandfather, Enrique, was the president of Coca-Cola in Latin America while on her mother’s side, she really is a Gilmore – several generations back.
Alexis Early Life
Beautiful Latina Alexis Bledel was born in Houston, Texas in 1981 as Kimberley Alexis Bledel. Her mother, Nanette (nee Dozier), was born in Arizona but raised in Mexico, and her father was both born and raised in Argentina.
Alexis considers herself to be a Latina – and raised in a Spanish-speaking household and did not learn English until she started school.
Alexis attended St. Agnes Academy Catholic School in Houston where she completed her high school education although she also attended St. Mark’s Lutheran Middle School. She has a younger brother, born in 1986, named Eric.
An Early Modeling Start
She was a shy child and was encouraged by her parents when she was 8 to try community theatre to help overcome her shyness. Following early roles in amateur theatre, she was recruited as a model after being spotted at the local mall.
Her modeling work began when she was 14 taking this young Latina model all over the world – to Tokyo, Milan, New York, and Los Angeles – while she was still completing high school. She recalls this story of her modeling days:

“Before I got Gilmore Girls, I was modeling. I went in for a call and was told, “Sweetie, you need to lose two inches off those hips”. I was 14. So, I just replied, “I have more jobs than I can do. I’m in high school. I can’t go to all the trouble of losing the two inches, so I’ll pass. Someone might tell you to lose weight, but you can say no.“
During her modeling career, she was featured on the covers of many teenage fashion magazines including Teen Vogue, Glamour, CosmoGirl, Vanity Fair, Lucky, Latina, Elle Girl, Parade, Nylon, and Seventeen. She was also the ‘face’ of Bonne Bell lip balm and Naturistics lip gloss. Alexis states that her modeling career ended when a photographer

Alexis from Modeling to Acting
In addition to modeling, she also took acting classes before landing the role of Rory Gilmore at the age of 19 after her first-ever audition. Remarkably, she studied film for a year at New York University – because she felt that being behind a camera was more comfortable for her. Regardless of which, she spent many hours in front of the camera – for television, movies, and modeling.
With her striking blue eyes and low, childlike voice, Alexis is often chosen to play teenage roles in film and television. She has retained her shy and awkward demeanor, despite her successful career in modeling and acting.
Alexis Bledel Movies and TV Shows
While working on Gilmore Girls, Alexis also worked in several movie roles. Her first movie role in 2002 was ‘Tuck Everlasting’ where she played opposite Jonathon Jackson. Following this, she co-starred in ‘The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants’ in 2005.
She plays the role of aspiring artist, Lena Kaligaris who is traveling with three friends. The movie, based on the novel of the same name by Ann Brashares, centers around a pair of magical jeans.

After completing work on these two ‘feel good’ movies, Alexis went on to star as Becky, a ‘kick-ass’ prostitute in Sin City. She also co-starred in ‘I’m Reed Fish’, a romantic comedy while continuing to work on Gilmore Girls.
The season finale of ‘Gilmore Girls’ was in 2006. Following its ending, Alexis continued her acting career with several film and television roles, as well as live theater performances.
In total, she has played roles in 23 movies, 8 television series – including 4 film-length follow-up movies of Gilmore Girls – and several theater performances. Her highly successful acting career includes nominations for numerous awards, as well as winning several television awards.
In 2001 she was the recipient of the Young Actors Award. Her role as Rory Gilmore, included winning the Family Television award in 2002 for the Best Actress in the same role. Furthermore, she has won several awards for her work in other television productions.
Current Work
Currently, Alexis is playing the role of Emily in a television series based on the novel ‘A Handmaid’s Tale’ by Margaret Atwood. The series was initially to run for one season consisting of 10 episodes but was so popular that production was extended over four seasons.
The role of Emily in the series is challenging. ‘A Handmaid’s Tale’ is set in a horrific world, following a second American Civil War. Fertility has declined and the totalitarian leadership forces fertile women into the role of child-bearing slaves to reproduce and repopulate the country.

The series has received numerous awards, and Alexis has received two for the best guest actress as well as nominations for the best-supporting actress. To get into her role as Emily, Alexis meditates and listens to music pertinent to the era of the series.
Private Life
Alexis remains a private person, despite her years in front of the camera. She moved to Los Angeles while shooting Gilmore Girls and was in a relationship with Milo Ventimiglia who also starred in the series for four years, from 2002 to 2006.
She began dating Vincent Kartheiser in 2012 after they met while she was guest-starring on ‘Mad Men’. They announced their engagement in March 2013 and married in California in June 2014. They have one child, a son, said to have been born in the fall of 2015.
Alexis Bledel’s Child
Alexis and Vincent did not announce the pregnancy publicly, only family and a few close friends ever knew they were expecting a baby.
There was no public announcement when their son was born – a friend accidentally ‘slipped up’ and revealed his existence several months after his birth. There are no photos of their son and even his name is unknown.
Given her career, and public interest in celebrities keeping Alexis’s pregnancy and the birth of her son secret is quite an achievement. Although considering the slating and unkind comments frequently made about celebrity pregnancy and motherhood, it’s understandable that she should keep it quiet. As she has said earlier:
“It’s your stuff, and if you share things that are too personal with a magazine or with your public, it’s sort of like it’s not really yours anymore, it’s shared information and it’s not special to you anymore.
I don’t like that. I think people with personalities who like to talk about what’s going on in their lives, they’ll talk without really knowing how it’s going to come back and bite them, and generally, it does.
And luckily, I have the kind of personality where I am extremely private. I don’t really like to tell everyone about my business. I’d much rather people wonder, or don’t know.“
Alexis keeps Life Simple
The young Latina Alexis Bledel enjoys a range of hobbies and interests when not working. She enjoys reading, writing, photography, watching movies, and hanging out with her family. Choosing to live a simple lifestyle its no wonder she has no Instagram.
